DEWINTERIZING YOUR CABIN, BOAT, AND RV WITH KANBERRA

At Kanberra®, we are ready for warmer weather and making memories camping, being out on the water, or having weekend backyard BBQs. With spring just around the corner, now is the time to start preparing to get your boat or RV out of storage and open up those cabin doors. 

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Timing is everything,” and with de-winterizing, timing is essential; every year is slightly different. If you are 100% sure there won’t be a late spring freeze in your area, it’s a good time to start de-winterizing. 

Depending on how severe the winter weather was in your part of the world, the amount of time the boat or RV/Trailer or Cabin was in storage or locked down and how meticulously you winterized can affect how ready your boat will be for opening day! Let’s discuss what can happen to your boat during winterization, the steps to de-winterize, and the best ways to keep your boat fresh all season with Kanberra.

De-Winterizing your Boat and RV 

• Check the engine
• Test the electronics
• Change the engine oil  
• Fill the cooling system
• Inspect the gas tank and fuel line
• Get your safety gear in order
• Check the belts for wear
• Refill Kanberra Gel jars throughout boat. 

Optional step - Hire your local boat professionals to do all the above.

Opening up the Cabin

• Open the windows to let fresh air in
• Refill Kanberra jars
• Check the furnace and put in a new IAP custom filter.
• Check pipes for rust or damage before you switch on your plumbing and water heater. If you’re not sure what to look for, hire a plumber to do a basic assessment.
• Be on the lookout for signs of critters.
• Scan screens and windows for holes, gaps, and electrical cords for fraying or bite marks.
• Examine your eaves and deck for signs of rotting.
• Test the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Test the batteries in motion sensor lights on the front door, deck, and the way down to the lake. If you don’t already have motion sensors, consider adding them for extra safety.
